Many of you will know that I've been making a dress to wear to my daughter's wedding recently which hasn't been all plain sailing but, has given me the opportunity to develop some new skills. My dress was a hack of Vogue 8825 which is a pattern I've loved for a long time but never made. The original pattern comes with a straight, fitted skirt which I didn't want, so I used the original skirt pattern as a 'block' and created a flared skirt which I then adapted further to create a wrap-over style skirt with an up & down hemline. I'm so pleased with the result, it was comfortable to wear and I think it looked fab in the mocha coloured satin fabric I chose. As the original pattern was designed for stretch fabrics I added a centre back zip and, I also added cover button and loops fastenings to the cuffs to make my dress a little bit special. Well, the great day has now come and gone and what an amazing time we had! Up until now I've shown you bit of my dress but not the whole thing so here it is.....
So, as I look forward to other things, Christmas is fast approaching. On Sunday I hosted my first Christmas workshop of the season making Christmas decorations with a lovely bunch of ladies. I will be adding a step-by-step tutorial to my resources page for anyone who would like to have a go at making Christmas tree decorations - they are great for hanging from door handles, on the tree, or if you have LOTS of time to sew, making bunting. I'm busy making custom orders of bunting for friends and family....the sewing never stops!
Looking further forward to 2020, I'm taking bookings for workshops and masterclasses which are all available to view/book via Eventbrite as usual. It would be great to see some regular faces along with some new faces in 2020. I'm also working on a brand new six week course for the spring where we will be doing some pattern hacking and working with jersey fabrics to create tops, tunics and dresses so please let me know if this might be of interest to you and i'll ensure you get notified of the details as soon as it is launched.
